About the Organization

The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) was established in 1993 as a regional NGO dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights. Its mission is to strengthen the human rights movement within the Arab region. For almost 30 years, CIHRS has played a unique and central role in identifying and responding to the challenges and needs of this movement and helping to shape its development. CIHRS enjoys consultative status with the United Nations ECOSOC and observer status with the African Commission for Human and Peoples’ Rights. CIHRS has received numerous awards for its work, including the French Republic Award for Human Rights in December 2007, and an award from the Library of Alexandria (2010).

 

About the role

 

Job Purpose:

We are looking for a dedicated Finance and Administration Associate to lead all financial and administrative tasks related to our Geneva Office. This role requires a strong focus on financial management within the context of a non-profit organization, along with general administrative duties.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Financial management of the Geneva office:

  • Oversee all financial operations for the Geneva Office, including budgeting, reporting, and accompanying audits.
  • Manage bank communications and transactions.
  • Manage reimbursements and salary disbursements.
  • Handle communications with an external accounting firm to ensure payroll, tax declarations, and social security payments.
  • Ensure compliance with Swiss financial regulations and standards.

Office administration of the Geneva office:

  • Ensure compliance with legal registration requirements such as with the commercial registry; follow up on the organization’s tax exemption and handle subscriptions with proper staff and offices insurances.
  • Handle procurement and maintenance of the office, office equipment and office supplies.
  • Supervise office tidiness.

Human resources support to the Geneva office:

  • Assist in human resources related tasks such as onboarding new staff and managing personnel records.
  • Oversee work permit requests and renewals for employees.
  • Coordinate with social security and pension funds for employee benefits.
  • Assist employees with other administrative requirements related to their residency in Switzerland.

Event and logistics coordination related to Geneva activities:

  • Support the organization of local events, including venue booking and catering arrangements, travel and interpretation logistics.
  • Manage logistics for staff participating in local and international events.

 

About the Candidate

It is highly desirable for a successful applicant to possess a promising combination of the following qualifications, knowledge & experience, and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience in administration and/or finance or in a similar field.
  • Experience with non-profit organizations or associations.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Knowledge of Swiss financial regulations and non-profit sector operations.
  • Strong commitment to, and passion for, the principles and practice of human rights.
  • Fluent in English, with proficiency in French; Arabic will be considered a strong asset.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-cultural team.
  • Ability to represent CIHRS and interact with a variety of partners and government administration.
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver to tight deadlines.

Conditions

  • 1-year contract subject to a 3-month probation period. Renewal is subject to evaluation.
  • Commencement: Immediate.
  • Working hours: Full time.
  • Based: Geneva, Switzerland.
